Bolt not charged up about 100 feat
i have 100 "You can have the world record but to me if you don't have the goldmedal in the Olympics or world championships, it means nothing. Agold medal is more important to me, especially the Olympic goldmedal. Somebody's got to wait four years to beat you. If you're theworld recordholder, it can be taken at any time." Bolt, a junior world champion and recordholder in the 200, nowplans to contest the 100 and 200 in Beijing, providing he makes theteam at the June 24-26 Jamaican trials. Before Saturday, he andcoach Glen Mills weren't sure of his Olympic plans other than the200, his specialty. His impressive 100 of 9.76 May 3 wasn'tsufficient for them to commit to the double. "It might not be prudent," Mills, in his fourth year as Bolt'scoach, said Thursday. "Running one fast race is not the same ascompeting in the Olympics. He has to run (four) rounds. He doesn'thave the experience in the 100. "We've been working the three previous years for the 200. Runningthe 100 could jeopardize the 200. A lot of things come into play." Funny how a world record can change thinking. Saturday night Boltwasn't worried about four 100 races in two days as demanded by theOlympic schedule: "It's all about running rounds. The 100 is easier to me. The 200 isreally hard. You've got to push yourself sometimes. "All you've got to do is run the rounds smart. Wait for the finalsand give it your all." Bolt planned to return to Jamaica on Sunday. "I guess there's goingto be a big celebration," he said. Bolt, the silver medalist in the 200 at last year's worldchampionships, is scheduled to run his first 200 of the year June12 in the Czech Republic. "I'm looking forward to running my first200 because to me the 200 is my best race," Bolt said. "I think Ican be the best in the 200. I want to be the best in the 200." Now Bolt is also the best in the 100, despite his inexperience. Hisvictims Saturday included Tyson Gay, the 2007 world 100 and 200champion, who was second (9.85). Bolt is not counting out Gay,running his second 100 of the year. "I think Tyson Gay is not in tip-top shape yet," Bolt said. "Ithink I'm ahead of him of right now. I've just got to stay ahead." Gay plans to return to Dallas for work with Jon Drummond. "There'snothing to re-evaluate," he said. "I'm going to tweak a few thingsin my start." Bell lap: LaShawn Merritt won a stretch duel to upset Olympic and two-timeworld champ Jeremy Wariner in the 400 Sunday in Berlin. …Olympic and world champ Liu Xiang of China pulled out of the 110hurdles in New York, citing a tight right leg, which also couldkeep him out of Sunday's Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Ore. Hemight not have another prep race before the Olympics.
